I JUST KEEP FORGETTING TO UPDATE THE LIST; IT IS A HASSLE TO DO SO. AND I WILL KEEP CURRENT ON THE NOTIFICATION EMAILS WHEN I APPROACH CAPACITY. With this economy You probably don't need to worry about it too much . Call for details and rates 570.679.2100..
CLICK HERE FOR AVAILABILITY CALENDAR OR TO MAKE RESERVATIONS. or better yet call 570.679.2100 IF YOU NEED AN IMMEDIATE ANSWER for making reservations. Please have your Visa, MC or Disc. card ready so I can hold the room for you. This click is my Webervations Reservation Service. It is free for you. If, however, you have booked on Priceline, Expedia, or one of those other travel agencies please understand I have to pay a fee to be listed there and they charge a booking fee to book thru their system & to cancel. So if you do go thru these travel agencies, you will pay up to $25/30 more per night as a result. And some of those travel agencies---Hotels.com to name one in particular, actually only give you the BASE PRICE and DON'T INCLUDE the 9% SALES TAX or the BOOKING FEE to the TOTAL that you see & gets printed out because they expect you to have read all the "rules & conditions" when you click on the "I agree" section in making the reservation. So you have been warned. The solution to save the money is you call 570.679.2100 & you can save that money & use it on gas instead. This is that one rare time where not including the hotel stay actually saves you the money. You usually can get an immediate answer unless I'm out mowing, shoveling snow or at the store. If I'm not there just leave a message & I will return the call. Don't worry about calling late at night, I'm with the phone all the time.

GOT GPS??? WE ARE AT NORTH 41.76727 & WEST 75.48289 WHICH IS WHERE THE HIWAY (171) MEETS THE DRIVEWAY. . We are 5 miles north of the village of Union Dale on RT 171 North and 2 miles north of the Herrick Center corners/intersection which is where Rt 374 from Elk Mtn & I-81 ends. If that doesn't work then try our NEW 911 ADDRESS which is: 9207 State Route 171, Union Dale, PA., 18470. If more info is asked then put down "Stillwater Road" for the hiway.
Our rooms have full cable TV with 20 Premium Channels (HBO, SHO,FLIX, TMC, STARZ, ENC, etc), hard wire Internet and wi-fi, coffee makers, Air Conditioning in the summer, completely renovated with new beds & carpets in the last couple of years. The Family Rooms have a Queen & 2 Twins with a fold up Twin if necessary so the kids don't have to sleep with each other. Other Regular Rooms have either a Queen and a Twin or just a Queen. Our rooms are non smoking. Please smoke outside and dispose of the butts in the cans provided outside.
The local NEPA SNOTRAILS SNOWMOBILE CLUB has a NEW WEBSITE if you are trying to find out the new info, then click here. http://nepsnotrails.snowclubs.com . Trail permits can be bought over at Arlos 1 mile away on the hiway & on the trails if you haven't got them yet. The local 4wheeler/quad club also has a new webside http://nworc.org which is just starting up & info will soon be there. 4wheeler trails are now open. . See our links page for details. And that goes for annual events and things to do in the area. Look it up on our links page.
For those interested, the first railroad train excursion of the year is April 15, a Sunday, at Steamtown in Scranton. Go to the links page to get on the Steamtown (or any other) website to get details. And check out the Wayne County website for the trains running in Honesdale also a reminder that the Great Train Robbery Train Excursions begin the weekend on Sunday, June 24 at 1:00 pm, departing from the Wayne County Visitors Center in Honesdale. These excursions will run every Sunday through September 2nd (with the exception of Sunday, July 15th). To make reservations, please call 866-637-2457. Visit www.waynecountycc.com for the full Stourbridge Line Rail Excursion schedule. There are Christmas trains running now to celebrate the Holiday Season in December. Don't forget there are museums to see in both cities. Honesdale is about a half hour from the Motel & Scranton is about 45 minutes. Relax in the country with the peace & quiet & get your nervous system back.
.
Practically all the renovations are complete on the motel rooms and work is still being done elsewhere, but that work won't interfere with your stay here in any way except that the restaurant is still closed due to work being done and there is no noise to bother you The restaurant is being converted to a meeting/conference room for the future. Don't worry about food. It is as close as 1 mile away and within 10-15 minutes there are enough restaurants to choose from hamburgers & pizza to world class food and service. This is a far cry from when we started 48 years ago when we were litterally the only place here & felt an obligation to run the restaurant to keep you from starving.. .
As regards to ski ticket packages, please understand that my room rates are among the lowest in the area and since I am a small Motel I only get a $5 discount on tickets unlike the big chains who can rent 100s of rooms and get a much bigger discount. You will be much closer here and save on gas since we are only 7 miles from Elk. And when staying here you will save so much on room rentals that it will pay for the tickets. If you are spending $100-150 or more for a room elsewhere you are saving the ticket price by staying here. And if taking advantage of our 2 night for the price of one during the week (Sun-Thurs nights) during ski season you will save even more money. Another thing to remember is that if you want a multi-day ski ticket at Elk just ask them and they will do it on the spot and will save you more money than I can & you won't have to wait in line the next day(s) to get tickets.
IF HAVING TROUBLE SENDING ME AN E MAIL THRU THE WEBSITE THEN USE MY REGULAR E MAIL: rocco@thevacationinn.com or vacationinnpa@yahoo.com or vacation@nep.net It is all supposed to end up there anyway. If you don't get an answer in 24 hours then I never got it and try using the other email. If you are emailing me from a big company computer use the yahoo address. This is due to some filtering problems with the email server at nep. address that is out of my control & I can't do anything about it.
.
For fishermen & ladies, trout season opens on April 14th. Need bait & tackle?? It's nearby. And don't forget Spring Turkey begins on April 28. Check out the rest of the hunting & fishing seasons at my hunting & fishing pages. And remember there is now a bow hunting season for BEAR this year from Nov. 14-18. Followed by a gun season for Bear on the 19th Sat. and the following mon/tues./wed. before Thanksgiving (these are last year's dates). If you still want more Bear Season you can also hunt the 1st week of Buck season as well. There are reports from my hunters telling me there is a record size bear in the vicinity gorging himself from all the apples & other things out there.
.DIRECTIONS TO THE VACATION INN MOTEL:::.
DIRECTIONS-- BECAUSE OF ALL THE CONSTRUCTION ON ROUTE 81 WHICH IS AT ITS WORST DURING THE SUMMER WE RECOMMEND THE ALTERNATIVE NORTH AND SOUTH ROUTES LISTED BELOW BE USED INSTEAD OF WHAT FOLLOWS HERE FOR THE SUMMER . Take EXIT 206 off I-81 then Rt 374 EAST to Rt. 171 NORTH. We are on Rt 171 on the left hand side (about 15 miles from I-81). Turn left when you get to PA 106 to STAY on Pa 374 EAST. When near Scranton, 910 AM/103.1FM on the hour has traffic if you are lucky. Penn DOT says it will get worse in 2013-4 when there will be major bridge replacements & widening of roads in the Scranton area. This is a day by day thing with some days worse than others. Weekends are usually construction free and less problems..
TAKE THIS ROUTE INSTEAD TO SAVE TIME DUE TO CONSTRUCTION ON ROUTE 81: An ALTERNATIVE route from the SOUTH which is a little faster and less milage is to get off from I-81 around mile/EXIT 187 by getting on US RT 6 EAST to CARBONDALE, then getting OFF US Rt 6 at EXIT 6, (make left from ramp), follow signs on Bus 6 EAST, (right turn at light) about 2 miles to Rt 171, (left after the Gulf Station) and STAY on Rt 171 NORTH for 16 miles and the VACATION INN MOTEL is on the left.
This is for those coming up Rt I-380 & I-84: Follow signs to Route 6 East where I-380/84 ends. Then read paragraph above . This is actually the most direct straight line path to the Motel from I-81 and least hilly, & better plowed in the winter....
If you want to avoid a lot of the construction when coming from the SOUTH on I-81 entirely, then get on the PA TURNPIKE NORTH at exit 175 (off I-81) and go NORTH on the TURNPIKE to the end--Exit 131 and take BUS. Rt 6 EAST to Rt 171 NORTH. At the present time we recommend those coming north up I-81 actually get on the PA Turnpike at mile 175 (and if coming up on the turnpike to stay on it) and spend the extra $.80 cents (twice) to go to the end of the Turnpike and then get on Bus Rt 6 East to PA Rt 171 North. You will see the sign for RT 171 North after the Gulf station in Carbondale.
TAKE THIS ROUTE INSTEAD TO SAVE TIME DUE TO CONSTRUCTION ON ROUTE 81: An ALTERNATIVE route coming from the NORTH is to get off I-81 at EXIT 230 (first exit in PA) AND TAKE Rt 171 SOUTH (left turn at end of off ramp) for 25 miles to the VACATION INN which is on the right. This is less hilly than coming from Exit 206 and with the entire length of I-81 in the county under some sort of construction usually during the summer, this is really the best way right now Follow the speed limits thru towns. The Hallstead 5-0 & their associates are vigilant.
...
From New England/I-88 Get off at EXIT 6 (mile 16) and TAKE NY 79 SOUTH to PA which becomes PA 92 South to Susquehanna and there TAKE RT 171 SOUTH to VACATION INN.
Go to OUR ENDLESS MOUNTAINS INNKEEPERS WEBSITE:: www.inns-em.com also listed on our links page for further info & maps. There is an additional listing of things to do and places to see on the INNS website that is different than the info on my links page. The Endless Mountains Innkeepers are mostly small B & Bs with small Country Inns like me & we have banded together to do our own choice advertising. Whether you want Country Inns or B & Bs, either in town or out in the country, Please patronise our fellow Innkeepers. Most of us are in the I-81 Corridor and the Upper Delaware Region here in NE PA. and around either Elk Mountain or SnoMountain/SnoCove/Montage area.
See INFO & LINKS PAGE for upcoming events and places to see and enjoy in the area.
Located at the top of the Endless Mountains and the northern edge of the Poconos, the Vacation Inn is in an area that can still be called "God's Country" - where deer graze on your front lawn and many types of wildlife are commonly seen in the woods. Area hunting and fishing is great, and around Columbus Day, the fall foliage is spectacular to see.
December brings a winter wonderland, with two downhill and three cross-country ski areas nearby. The Vacation Inn is situated on the main connecting trail between two abandoned railroad beds that provide over 200+ miles of snowmobile and cross- country ski trails.
In the summer, these same trails can be used for hiking, horseback riding, or just a peaceful walk through the woods. There is a wide range of antique and collectible shops in the area, and over a dozen golf courses and a half dozen driving ranges - most of which require no reservations so you can relax & get away from it all & get your nervous system back.
Hunters have over 30,000 acres of State Game Lands at their disposal. Whitetail deer and black bear are plentiful. Squirrels, rabbits, and turkey provide action for small game hunting. Over 30 area lakes and streams are stocked with trout, bass, pickerel, panfish, and more. By early January, safe ice is often ready for some of the best ice fishing in the state.
Both Scranton and Honesdale both have museums dedicated to early railroad history and both locations also have train rides throughout most of the year. See our links page for that info on riding the trains.
